Opening an IC Markets Account from India, in the Order It Actually Happens

Registration and verification are the easy half. The decisions that cannot be undone — the base currency, the funding route and the remittance question — all sit on the other side of them.

Account minimums USD 0 (Raw Spread, cTrader Raw Spread, Standard), USD 5,000 (Raw Pro), USD 100,000 (Raw Pro+)  ·  Margin is charged per tier, not at one flat rate: 1:5000 on lots 0-25, 1:3000 on lots 25-50, 1:1000 above 50 on MetaTrader, capped at 1:1000 on cTrader  ·  Base currency is chosen once, at registration, from ten that exclude the rupee

What you need to open an account

Three things, and two of them cannot be undone. The form itself takes minutes. What follows it does not, and two of the three items below are irreversible once chosen. IC Markets publishes ten account base currencies — USD, AUD, EUR, GBP, SGD, NZD, JPY, CHF, HKD and CAD — and the rupee is on none of them, so an Indian applicant is choosing a foreign currency for every figure the account will ever display: margin, floating profit and loss, commission, and the flat per-lot overnight holding fee that a Swap Free position pays instead of a swap.

How long it takes: not published on the pages checked on 2 September 2026, so treat any timescale quoted elsewhere as unverified and ask the broker in writing.
Who you contract with: an Indian resident is onboarded to Raw Trading Ltd of Seychelles under FSA Securities Dealer licence SD018, the branch the broker's own registration feed marks open for India. No Indian regulator licenses that relationship, and IC Markets appears as entry 22 on the Reserve Bank of India's Alert List, revised 19 November 2025, at rbi.org.in.

The sequence, with the irreversible steps marked

The order below is deliberate. Most guides put the funding question last, which is exactly backwards for a reader in India: it is the step most likely to stop the process, and the one that should be read about first.

  1. Read the Reserve Bank of India material first, not last: this is the step where the remittance question becomes yours rather than hypothetical.
  2. Register an email and a portal password, remembering that this credential opens the Secure Client Portal only and never a trading terminal.
  3. Complete the registration form as an Indian resident, which routes the application to Raw Trading Ltd of Seychelles under FSA Securities Dealer licence SD018.
  4. Pass verification with identity and address documents before any funding step, since an unverified account cannot withdraw whatever it manages to deposit.
  5. Choose the account type — Raw Spread, Standard or cTrader Raw Spread, with Raw Pro and Raw Pro+ behind USD 5,000 and USD 100,000 minimums — and then the base currency, which is the decision on this list that cannot be reversed.
  6. Fund it by a cross-border route, since no Indian one is published: the account minimums themselves are USD 0 on Raw Spread, cTrader Raw Spread and Standard, and the conversion cost sits with your card issuer or bank rather than with the broker.
  7. Download the terminal from inside the portal last of all, having already settled currency, funding route and eligibility — or open a demo instead and settle none of them yet.

The funding route India does not have

IC Markets publishes local bank routes on its funding page for Thailand and Vietnam only. There is no Indian route of any kind — no domestic transfer rail is offered by the broker — which leaves the cross-border methods: cards (fundable in AUD, USD, JPY, EUR, NZD, SGD, GBP or CAD), PayPal, Neteller, Skrill, UnionPay and international wire transfer, the last of these quoted at two to five business days inbound and up to fourteen days outbound with possible intermediary charges. The broker itself charges no deposit or withdrawal fee; the cost of turning rupees into a base currency sits entirely with your card issuer or bank, and it is charged again on the way back, because withdrawals must return to the source of the deposit and a card withdrawal is capped at the amount that card originally sent.

Two further rules catch applicants after verification rather than before it. Third-party payments are refused, so the name on the account and the name on the instrument must match. And a processing fee may be applied to a withdrawal if the deposited funds were never used for trading.

The step that comes before all the others

IC Markets appears as entry 22 on the Reserve Bank of India's Alert List, revised 19 November 2025. The RBI has separately stated that remittances for margin trading with an overseas counterparty are not a permitted purpose under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme, which is the Foreign Exchange Management Act channel most retail transfers abroad run through. Both are published by the RBI at rbi.org.in and should be read there in full rather than in anyone's summary, including this one. An Indian applicant is contracting with Raw Trading Ltd of Seychelles under FSA Securities Dealer licence SD018, with no Indian regulator standing behind the relationship. This site is independent, takes no legal position, and CFD trading carries a high risk of losing money.
