MetaTrader 5 at IC Markets: What Changes for an Indian Account

2,250 instruments on New York servers, against 121 on cTrader in London — and one base-currency choice at registration that no later setting undoes.

Account minimums USD 0 (Raw Spread, cTrader Raw Spread, Standard), USD 5,000 (Raw Pro), USD 100,000 (Raw Pro+)  ·  Margin is charged per tier, not at one flat rate: 1:5000 on lots 0-25, 1:3000 on lots 25-50, 1:1000 above 50 on MetaTrader, capped at 1:1000 on cTrader  ·  Base currencies: ten published, and the rupee is not one of them

Two decisions on the MT5 registration form outlive every setting you change afterwards: the platform, which is fixed at that moment and cannot be swapped for MT4 later, and the base currency, which is picked from ten published options that do not include the rupee. Everything else on this page follows from those two — the 2,250 instruments MetaTrader quotes against 121 on cTrader, the New York server clock against London's, and the funding route an Indian deposit has to take because no local one exists. Figures checked 2 September 2026. CFD trading carries a high risk of losing money.

Which IC Markets platform should you use?

PlatformPricing modelBest forDevices
MetaTrader 4 / MetaTrader 5USD 3.50 per lot per side on Raw Spread, or no commission at all on Standard with spreads quoted from 0.8 pipsScheduled strategies, Depth of Market and the widest symbol listIssued for Windows, Mac, browser, iOS and Android from the broker platform section
cTraderUSD 3.00 for every USD 100,000 traded, charged on each sideA narrower symbol list of 121, a London clock and cTrader own copy toolsLondon servers, 4h30m to 5h30m behind IST, on desktop, browser, iOS and Android

Read that table by server city as much as by price: the MetaTrader rows are timed in New York and the cTrader rows in London, and from IST those two clocks are five hours apart. The instrument count differs by a factor of about eighteen between them.

What MT5 adds over MT4, and what it leaves alone

The additions are in the tooling and the breadth. MT5 carries 80 or more indicators against MT4 thirty, 21 timeframes against nine, Depth of Market, a wider set of order types and a built-in economic calendar, and it quotes forex, metals, indices and share CFDs where MT4 is aimed at forex and CFDs. The symbol count is the blunt version of the same point: 2,250 instruments reach a MetaTrader account and 121 reach a cTrader one, with the Raw Spread account alone covering 64 currency pairs and 15 major equity indices.

What it leaves alone is the bill and the plumbing. Price lists attach to the account type rather than the terminal, execution is still no-dealing-desk with institutional liquidity passed through, and stop out is still 50%. Choosing MT5 therefore buys instruments and tools; it does not buy a different cost structure, and it changes nothing at all about how money reaches the account.

The base currency chosen on MT5 is the one the account keeps

Ten base currencies are published: USD, AUD, EUR, GBP, SGD, NZD, JPY, CHF, HKD and CAD. The rupee is not among them, so the choice made at registration decides the currency of every figure MT5 will ever show you — margin, free margin, floating profit and loss, commission and the flat per-lot overnight holding fee on a Swap Free position. Choosing a currency close to what you actually trade removes one conversion; it cannot remove the rupee one, because that happens at your card issuer or bank before the money arrives.

Deposits by card are accepted in AUD, USD, JPY, EUR, NZD, SGD, GBP and CAD, and the broker charges no deposit or withdrawal fee of its own. Money must return to the source it came from, a card withdrawal is capped at what that card deposited, and third-party payments are refused outright — the account holder and the payment instrument have to be the same person.

What a wider instrument list does not change

More symbols do not create an Indian route. The broker's funding page publishes local bank routes for Thailand and Vietnam only; for India the listed options are the cross-border ones — cards, PayPal, Neteller, Skrill, UnionPay and wire transfer — with wires quoted at two to five business days on the way in and up to fourteen days on the way out, plus possible intermediary charges. Trading 2,250 instruments or 121 makes no difference to any of that.

Which company is actually on the other side of the terminal

The name over the door has moved. On its own global site the brand now presents itself as IC, with IC Markets Global as a secondary trading name, while search demand is still overwhelmingly for the older name. Underneath it there is not one company but several, and they are not interchangeable. IC and IC Markets Global are trading names of Raw Trading Ltd, registered in Seychelles under number 8419879-1 and licensed there by the Financial Services Authority as a Securities Dealer, licence SD018. IC Markets (EU) Ltd is a separate Cypriot company under CySEC licence 362/18. International Capital Markets Pty Ltd is the Australian company. IC Trading (Mauritius) Ltd trades as ictrading.com.

An Indian applicant meets exactly one of them: the broker's own registration feed routes India to the Seychelles branch, so Raw Trading Ltd is the counterparty named in the agreement and the European and Australian licences are not yours to rely on. No Indian regulator licenses that relationship, and IC Markets appears as entry 22 on the Reserve Bank of India's Alert List revised 19 November 2025, at rbi.org.in. This page is independent, takes no legal position, and CFD trading carries a high risk of losing money.

MT5 is downloaded from inside the Secure Client Portal, which becomes available once you open an account and pick a base currency you cannot change afterwards. The cheapest way to check the symbol list before that decision is a free demo.

Frequently asked questions

Does MetaTrader 5 cost more than MetaTrader 4 at IC Markets?
No. Price lists attach to the account type, not to the terminal, so Raw Spread costs USD 3.50 per lot per side and Standard costs nothing in commission whether the orders leave from MT4 or MT5. What MT5 changes is the symbol list, the order types and the tooling, not the bill.
Does MT5's wider instrument list change anything about funding from India?
No. The symbol list and the funding route are unrelated. Whether an account quotes 2,250 instruments or 121, it settles in one of ten published base currencies that excludes the rupee, and the broker publishes no Indian payment route at all — local bank routes exist on its funding page for Thailand and Vietnam only.
